Applying to College
Applying to college is different for everyone. But for many students, the process comes down to a frenzied 6 weeks of sending out multiple applications. And whether you are a first-time applicant with excellent writing and time-management skills, a strong student unsure what to write in the personal statement, a senior who has trouble with deadlines, or a transfer student who has been through the application process before, it is easy to overlook something important.
Better Edge offers one-on-one college consulting sessions to answer questions, explain options, identify resources, offer step-by-step advice, and provide detailed feedback. In these individual sessions, Better Edge tutors work with students on crucial aspects of the college search:
- keeping track of deadlines
- writing the personal statement
- editing applications
- searching for scholarships
- preparing for interviews
For students who just need proofreading or editing, Better Edge offers an easy way to submit your essay and get detailed feedback on the editing page.
Our primary college consultant, Dr. Kevin Cooney, has a background in academic counseling at UCLA, where he worked closely with high school, transfer, and college students. As a member of The New York State Association for College Admission Counseling (NYSACAC) and The Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA), he has helped New York students with their transfer applications, financial aid packages, choice of major, and personal statements.
How It Works
Like tutoring sessions, college consulting sessions take place at the most convenient location for you. These sessions are billed at the same rate as tutoring sessions–with one important exception. There is no free first session for college consulting.
